Home, Mosque and Street: Muslim

women and urban design

1.30-5.30 24th June 2009

This half-day seminar focused on Muslim women and their experiences of the built environment, particularly in London. Exploring religious, domestic and ‘public’ spaces, the seminar addressed the ways in which Islamic design principles affect the everyday lives of Muslim women. It also considered how planners, architects and urban designers can meet the needs of Muslim women from different communities and backgrounds and discuss how Muslim women working in these fields envisage urban change.
